Katerina Muravuova “Animal Farm”

The project “Animal Farm” is a gallery of icon-like paintings, including images, totems and amulets. The idea of the project is very consonant with the theme of virtuality and the lack of a specific geographical address of the gallery, since the speech in the project is about symbolic, intangible, sacred images of “new religiosity”.

The author inspired – creativity of ancient creatures on earth – bees – original canvases. In time-worn pieces of cloth worn by beeswax, the author saw natural calligraphic messages that had been written for decades. Icon-like bee-cloths served as impulses for the writing of icon-like portraits of animals. Gold backgrounds, borrowed from the traditional icon, fill the powerful strict graphical silhouettes of animal heads, which are clearly framed on the relief surface of the work.
